On the first and third Saturday of each month, The Houston Wing of the Commemorative Air Force welcomes guests to tour their WWII Museum and visit the Hangar at the West Houston Airport. The West Houston Airport is located on Groschke Road off of the Barker Cypress exit on I-10.
Your child will love hopping into this airplane, putting on a helmet, and pretending like he/she is flying the plane. My two year old and four year old took several turns, and they loved pulling the levers, pushing the buttons, and turning the wheel.
The Hangar has several CAF aircrafts, and there are several guides available to talk to you about each aircraft and answer questions. They have the following aircrafts: Lockheed C-60A "Lodestar, North American AT-6 "Texan", Consolidated-Vultee BT-13 "Valiant", Naval Aircraft Factory N3N "Yellow Peril", Fairchild PT-19Q "Cornell", and North American L-17 Navion.
The museum is filled with items that are sure to impress you. The museum has memorabilia including flying helmets, training materials used by aviation cadets of the WWII era, ration cards, German memorabilia, and many more interesting pieces.
